The best way to guarantee that you receive high quality, targeted traffic from your pay per click campaigns is to use only exact match keywords. This works fine if you are competing in an industry in which there is excess available keyword inventory, or when your budget is very limited. Often, however, due to strong competition for the top keywords or limited keyword inventory, you will need to use a more broad strategy. This opens you up to the possibility of having your ads displayed for non-relevant searches. The way around this problem is to use negative keywords to fine-tune you campaigns.

Negative keywords are keywords you specify that should not be included in search queries that trigger your ad. For example, if you provide services in one particular city but not another, you could use negative keywords to exclude your ad from being displayed from searches that contain the city where you do not do business.

Another example would be if you offer language translation services. If you run ads for the broad match keyword "Chinese symbols", chances are very good that you will generate a lot of traffic from people looking to have words translated into Chinese symbols for decorative purposes such as tattoos. So a good negative keyword in this instance would be "tattoo" because it would filter out people looking for Chinese symbols for tattoos, as opposed to more serious business matters.

As you run your campaign, it really helps to know what keywords people are actually using that trigger your ad at inappropriate times. In Google, you can generate a search query report that will provide this information. Run the report and then examine it for search phrases that triggered your ad that should not have. Then add those negative keywords to your account. Google lets you add negative keywords at the account or campaign level. If the keywords are ones for which you NEVER want your ad to display under any circumstance, then you should add it at the account level.

Use negative keywords to fine-tune the traffic that your web site receives via paid search. It will allow you to operate under a more broad strategy, but still limit your traffic to that that is the most appropriate. It is a power strategy that will help you improve your paid search return on ad spend by better focusing your marketing dollars.

Focus is the key to success in any type of marketing. If you broadcast your marketing message to the whole world, via mass distribution channels (or the Internet), you are going to be paying for a lot of set of eyes and ears that have no interest in your product or service. That is the advantage that search engine marketing has over traditional marketing to start with. When negative keywords are added to the equation, it increases the focusing process even further, turning your marketing message into a laser guided missile that only attacks the very best, most targeted prospects. It's a technique you should start using today.

It's easy. Just type your subject in quotes in Google's search box. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to test your search marketing efforts. Each week you can track which of your search marketing efforts is paying off and which isn't doing so well. The results may surprise you.

For instance, you might be surprised to see your Craigslist ad showing up surprisingly high in your Googleprint. Placing an ad on Craigslist not only gets your name out but also gets you site picked up by the search engines.

You can also find out what doesn't work; for instance, all those URLs you stuck on Twitter are fun but probably don't count for much. Using search Googleprints is also a good way to see what your competitors are doing. If they are buying Google search words that will turn up too.

And don't forget to click past the first page and examine other pages. Every now and then look at the first five pages to get a sense of what is happening on the lesser hits, especially if your search is a big generic one.

So how can one tell just what is going on? Much has been said about figuring out the Google algorithms or the way Google comes up with its search results. Forget it.

Even an engineer would have trouble figuring out exactly what Google is up to and Google certainly doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag. Those algorithms are Google's greatest intellectual property.

The truth is the Google algorithms change on a regular basis and if you are monitoring your Googleprint you can see how search results change when algorithms change. Sometimes these changes can be somewhat dramatic significantly changing your Google footprint. But you won't know unless you are tracking your Googleprint.

It's obviously important to remember that yours is not to reason why. Your chore is to see the application and results of the Google algorithms. If you begin to see the results, you can begin to understand the bigger picture and how that affects your search marketing efforts.

Don't expect any great revelations, but if you keep a steady finger on the pulse of the algorithms they will begin to make sense.

The basics don't change very much and they are most important; change your homepage with fresh, original content daily, focus on keywords and keyword strings and publish, link and backlink as much as possible. Avoid scams and spam.

Regular Googleprints also help you check for spammers and scammers that affect your Googleprint; in fact, you may have recourse.

For instance, a short while back when checking my Googleprint I was dismayed to see that the number one hit was a scam. This scam had lifted my name and business name and had posted it on a website that was selling porn.

I flagged and reported the site, as well as probably hundreds others also did. Within 24 hours it was gone; barred by the Google God. Or Goddess. Or their Googlenesses. The lesson here is take action and don't panic. Panic gets you nowhere when dealing in the search world.

If you are just starting out with your search marketing efforts, make a weekly copy of your Googleprint and save it for reference. Over a period of time you can review your Googleprint snapshots and see which of your search marketing efforts is more effective.

You can also check your Yahooprint and MSNprint as well. But clearly Google, as the biggest and most important search engine, is critical to search marketing and your search marketing campaigns.

Think search.

With technology providing such a key form of communication, it makes perfect sense for large businesses to attract their customers through online marketing. Search engine marketing has allowed for an even higher success rate with targeted audiences. The key to building customer loyalty is to treat these online customers as individuals.

Offline, you spend time making sure that your marketing materials bring customers into your shop front. In the internet world, you're utilising search engine marketing to target customers and bring them to your website. When a customer enters your establishment, you immediately greet them, offer assistance, and work to provide them with the highest level of service. As a business owner, this is common knowledge in gaining and keeping customers. The same idea can be applied to your website audiences. Adding a personal touch to your online marketing is easily accomplished by simply extending the customer service that you give to physical patrons in a new format to reach internet patrons. There are several areas in which this can be accomplished.

Make Your Site User Friendly: When customers have to drive, find a parking spot and browse a store, they are much more likely to stay until they find what they need. Internet users are much quicker to change online sites, if it is difficult to find key items or slow to navigate on your site, users will likely leave and move onto competitor's sites.

Reply Quickly and Personalize Responses to Inquiries - Just as you would quickly assist a customer who enters your establishment; assist your online customers with quick and thorough responses to all questions. When communicating with customers, use the information you ask for on the contact form to personalize messages and make the customer feel valued. When responding to inquiries, avoid stock messages as they send a tone that tells the customer they are not important. Set up personalised auto responders to let the customer know that the message was received and offer a turnaround time for an answer.

Display a Privacy Statement: When customers enter your business, they may not be required to give any information regarding their identity. Online customers are required to give many more details about themselves and if they're not sure how that information will be used or protected, they may go somewhere else. Display your privacy statement prominently so customers know that their information is safe.

Earn Customer Loyalty: If a customer has a negative experience with your company, they are less likely to return and the same holds true for online customers. If they feel they have not received good service, they will not likely purchase from you again.

Online customers can be even more valuable than offline customers and should be treated as such. Ninety percent of online users research their products and services online. Providing top notch customer service and exceeding their expectations will almost guarantee their return. Comments regarding experiences with online businesses spread quickly on the internet. Do all that you can to ensure positive comments are being spread by all who do business with your site.

High rollers only, please

Now that Google is a publicly traded company, traditions and advertiser friendly philosophies seem destined to clash with fiduciary responsibility. Imagine this scenario: Everybody uses Google, so every advertiser needs a presence there, and the law of supply and demand makes Google one expensive place to be.

Big companies were reluctant a few years back to shift a significant amount of their advertising budgets to search marketing. This reluctance made conditions perfect for small businesses to take advantage of Google's relevancy at bargain basement prices while Google built its reputation and search share.

But big companies wised up, making competition for ad space even fiercer. Those big budgets provided a big advantage in organic results, too. While bootstrappy, budget-conscious companies tweaked and tested and gamed to get better organic placement, large companies realized pretty fast it was easier just to buy a site already ranking for relevant keywords.

Trends like these, along with Google's own renewed focus on raising search ad real estate prices by reducing the number of ads while increasing relevancy for users and, by default, conversion rates for advertisers, mean Google was already headed for high-roller club status. And now Google is reaching into Yahoo's pot, too.

Effectively, Google has the potential to reach 90 percent or more of Internet searchers: 90 percent of the US, adding to 90 percent of the UK and Europe. That's what, a couple of hundred million searchers? Add that to other advertising roads Google is traveling—TV, radio, print, wireless—and remember how a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl grabs a couple of million dollars for the network broadcasting it.

Consider this also: According to ComScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni, Google has made its billions from just five percent of its ads being clicked. Not to insult your math ability, but that's 95 percent of Google ads that are not clicked. Though clicks are monetized based on direct action, Fulgoni says only 16 percent of ads have direct online effects; 21 percent have latent online effects, and 63 percent have latent offline effects.

"[S]o 84% of the value isn’t being monetized by search engines," Search Insider's David Berkowitz summarizes in his "Dreaming of a Super Model" report. The value in that 84 percent is in less tangible branding value. Enquiro attributes a 16 percent brand lift when the brand made an appearance in the top organic result and the top sponsored result.

Fulgoni used these numbers to suggest Google could maximize profit by adding a layer of cost to search advertising in the form of cost per impression. Either by display advertising (Google can certainly pull up DoubleClick's CPM expertise for this*), or by simply charging every time a text ad appears on the search results page, Google could up its ad revenue by huge margins. Advantage: advertisers with huge budgets, and Google shareholders. Disadvantage: Google goes back on its core philosophy of clean interface, simplicity, and equality of opportunity.

Think that can't happen? You could be right, but "fiduciary responsibility to shareholders" is a much weightier phrase than "advertisers will be outraged." Berkowitz joins a likely chorus that advertisers would break this model:

"So, what would a CPM model add to search? In this economy or any economy, not much. Yes, it would show marketers that there is more they should value. At the same time, that would make search marketing much less appealing. There are competing forces: the engines aren’t cashing in as well as they could be, but marketers have enough pricing concerns with search even when they’re getting a great return on investment, let alone when they’re struggling."

Of course, high roller tables in Vegas and national television networks with primetime programming don't cater to the struggling advertiser. Advertisers would be outraged and many would likely leave—but the cold, hard, unpleasant fact is that with enough market share and enough fiduciary responsibility Google nor advertisers would have much choice. For advertisers, it's be on Google or risk it in the margins of the rest of the search world. For Google, everyday is Super Bowl Sunday.

To get (big money) advertisers on board, Berkowitz suggests, Google would have to be able to prove the benefits of branding impact with actual numbers. Enquiro's Gord Hotchkiss also questions whether an unclicked ad has much impact beyond being subconsciously stored on the "white board" of our working (short-term) memory.

Ask yourself, though, how many national (or local, for that matter) television ads work their way from short-term to long-term memory. Then think about how much that lack of transference cost the advertiser. Still yet there is value in awareness, and advertisers have not stopped advertising on a national, primetime level.

*Google's acquisition of DoubleClick has already sparked antitrust concerns, but it seems to me it's hard to prove antitrust claims on the Internet, where competition is virtually limitless, even when natural, but not necessarily permanent, monopolies develop. I think this scenario, where DoubleClick's display advertising/behavioral targeting capabilities are pulled up for search results, is fairly unlikely given Google's general tendency towards a cleaner interface, which has been one of the company's principle paths to success. It would be much easier and less annoying to the end user just to better monetize the text ads themselves. But stranger things have happened…

Vodka listings raise eyebrows

Google has had a longstanding policy against advertising liquor, along with guns and gambling. Frank Watson at SearchEngineWatch found it surprising, then, when a search for [vodka] brought back Google Shopping results.

The search brought back results from various vendors, along with prices. "Now that does seem like they are contradicting their own rules," writes Watson.

Oddly, similar results are not returned for other liquors like gin, rum, tequila, or whiskey. Likewise, searches for other banned products, like handguns or shotguns, brought back no Shopping results. Watson concedes it could be an oversight.

SearchEngineLand's Danny Sullivan weighed in on the issue, disagreeing that Google was violating its own policy because Shopping results are not the same as ads. On Sphinn, he comments:

[T]hat's not a "Google Checkout" box that's appear. It's Google Shopping results….Just like regular Google web search, you have paid and unpaid results in shopping…. You could argue that if Google wants to ban things in ads, they should ban the same things in editorial results. But Google's never claimed to be consistent here, when I've talked to them about it in the past. Some things they don't want ads for (some things they also by law can't take ads for), and that's it.

Glitch or not a glitch, hypocrisy or not, Sullivan makes a good case. It's still odd only [vodka] brings up anything.

Some few years back, there weren't so many techniques in which you could market your website on the Internet. With the emergence of content syndication, search engine marketing has become more dynamic. It is now being used widely in various forms to market different website. Content is submitted in the web in different forms, ranging from articles, press releases, blogs, white papers, journals any thing. The purpose of these search engine marketing content is two folds, one is to spread knowledge and inform and educate users and second to promote the websites.

Since these write ups serve the purpose of spreading knowledge and promotion, there some basic guidelines which these write-ups have to adhere to in order to be effective in the purpose they are going ot serve. The first criteria of content syndication therefore is to create a content that is rich in keywords and knowledge. These contents can be any any for, article raging from 300 to 3000 words or news letters or even white papers that provide essential knowledge on any particular service. The subject of these search engine marketing articles can vary depending on the subject of the website. There are articles on numerous subjects ranging from fashion to business to marketing and even household tips.

Articles that are written for search engine marketing are use for promoting the website and attract more traffic into them, but the unique factor in these articles is that they are not out rightly promotional. As a matter of fact articles that are not informative enough and act more as a promotional tool are not accepted by a number of article directories Online.

Once these articles are created, they are sent across to various article submission directories, ezine portals, blog and newsletter sites for publishing. Each publishing website has its own set of editorial guidelines, each article that is posted for submission is first scrutinized by their dedicated editors. Once these articles are considered fit they are published in the website where they are displayed for public viewing. This is how content syndication is used in search engine marketing and acts as an effective tool to market websites.

Be it search engine optimization or pay per click ads, keywords play a major role in search engine marketing. It is because of the relevancy of your keywords that your website is included in the search engines and is reflected on the resulting pages. Just in case your website was not optimized with the right keywords, it would neither appear in the search engine nor, would it attract visitors. There are a number of things that you need to keep in mind before you begin optimizing your search engine marketing strategy.

Survey Your Industry

When considering optimization of keywords in your SEM plans, it is advised that you first do a complete research of your industry. Find out the different keywords that can be used and are currently in practice in your industry. It is important that your search engine marketing be apt to your industry demands, so that it is easy to track your website when doing a search on your industry type websites.

Discover Niche Areas

While finding logically based search results, it is important that you concentrate on the niche market as well. It is hard to attract traffic from high demand keywords, as there is already too much of rush on these keywords. On the other hand if you have a niche keyword, which is unique to the industry and supports your site content as well, it will be easier to call for traffic from these sites.

Do a Dummy Test

While you are researching on the keywords, one thing that you should always remember is the average count of traffic you can expect. When you select a keyword, do a dummy test of the keyword on various search engines like Yahoo, MSN, Google etc. to check the popularity of the keywords. This will give you a fair idea of the kind of traffic you can expect from these sites. The numbers do not really match always but it does give you an approximate which, helps in drawing the framework of your search engine marketing plan.

Check Ad Content

Content matters. It is not important to have the top position in the search engines only. Along with the top keywords and a high rank it is the content of your keywords advertisement in the search engines that also affects search engine marketing. If your ad content is supporting your keyword and is able to describe the objective of your website, you have won the battle. But if your content is misleading it will only mislead your campaign and badly affect your search engine marketing plan.

Make use of the above keywords strategies which will help you in your search engine marketing techniques and enhance the performance of your websites.

Remember when you used to navigate to a Web site by typing the URL into the address bar? You'd start by typing http. Then, you evolved and skipped using the http and just entered www. Now, you simply go to the search engine of your choice and type the company name you are looking for.

Why did this happen?

1. People Trust Search Engines To Deliver Accurate Results

Back in the day, search engines weren't as reliable as they are today. Five years ago, if you searched for a company's name, you'd be lucky if the first listing in the search results was the company you were looking for. Today, this is not the case. When you search for a company name, you can almost guarantee that the very first search result will be the company you are looking for.

2. The Rise of Toolbars

Most Internet users today have a toolbar with a search box installed on their computer. Since the trust in search engines to deliver accurate results is at an all-time high, it's understandable that people with toolbars are going to be more likely to use the search box right in front of them, rather than type in a lengthy web address.

Another reason for the rise in toolbars is that all major search engines have toolbar offerings of their own. The reason for this is that they want to encourage you to use their search box on their toolbar because they then have the opportunity to make money, whereas they do not have the opportunity to make money from use of the address bar.

3. Homepages are Search Engines

Most people today have a search engine set as their homepage; therefore, access to a search box is never further away than clicking the home button. Since getting to a search box is so easy, people use it more frequently than they would an address bar.

So What Does This Mean to Search Engine Marketers?

If you ask any search marketer what their best keyword is, they almost always tell you it is their company name or a derivative of that, i.e. branded terms. So why do branded terms make such great keywords?

When people buy online, they often require more than one visit to a site before the conversion takes place. Typically, their first visit is generated from a paid search ad that is for a generic term, product name or model number. After doing one of those searches, they now know who offers this product and have an idea of who they want to buy from.

Now that they know where they want to buy the product from, they have to get back to that Web site. Since we now know that the address bar is dead, how do they get back to the site? They go to their trusted search engine and enter the name of the company as a search term in their toolbar or search box on their homepage, then either click on your paid search ad for your branded term or, if you're lucky, your organic search result.

Since nearly all search marketers today give conversion credit to the last ad that gets clicked, they very often are giving credit to their branded terms. The problem is that it was the keyword the user searched for prior to the branded term that introduced them to your company and influenced them to want to buy the product from you. The only reason why they typed in your company name and clicked on your branded ad was to navigate back to your site.

Search engine marketers need to implement technologies that look at all of the ads in the sale versus only seeing the very last ad before the conversion. With this type of technology in place, search engine marketers can give credit where credit is due. In this example, the credit should go to the first keyword that was clicked on, not the branded keyword, since the branded keyword was only used to navigate back to the site. Branded terms need to be a part of your campaigns; however, they should not steal credit for sales from other ads that are doing all the work.

The elementary structure of search engines is programmed as such that it reacts in an extremely dynamic and result-oriented manner to fresh content.

The latest and highest quality updated content is what the search engines always crave for and react to the best.

Content and Search Engines

The key factor which makes blogging a beneficial web activity for search engines is that the search engines respond well to new content on a website or a weblog. In fact, the internet jargon labels "content as the king" from a search engine's viewpoint.

Blogs provide one of the most simple, quick and easy methods of adding content to a website. Users don't need to know HTML or web design techniques to add content if they do so through the medium of blogs.

Ready Information

Search engines also react marvelously well to mediums from where they can dish out ready information. Analysis of various news and information websites vis-a-vis weblogs has proven that the information content in blogs is more easily accessible than that in websites.

To explain further, search engines respond well to the blogs also because of the blogs unique relationship with the user and the content. If we talk about the pages sitting in an index, we are waiting for the search engine to visit and query the data. On the other hand, owing to the unique feed association, the user is right there, getting the data almost as soon as you create it.

RSS Feeds

Besides, RSS feeds have also shifted the choice of visible content. By using RSS feeds, blogs give visitors the ability to use blog aggregators such as Topix.net, Bloglines, Yahoo's blog aggregator or a desktop tool such as FeedDemon.

This again works well for search engines. From the search point of view, you can go to Yahoo! and type your search term and simply find results. The site represented by those results has an RSS feed which you can subscribe to and read on a regular basis.

Default Structure

Most importantly, the inherent and basic search engine friendly nature of blogs is what gets the attention of search engine marketers. As we said earlier, blogs are easy to publish and tend to contain lots of fresh, keyword rich text.

Moreover, as many blogs are rendered as static HTML pages in standard compliant designs, all of this information is readily available for the search engine spiders.

To conclude, blogs provide a faster and qualitative access through the medium of search engines to an informed and interested audience. This in turn does well for the efficiency and abilities of the search engines.

For most of the major search engine marketing platforms, there are two different places to run ads: on search engine results pages (SERPs) and on content pages. Search engine results pages are what you typically think of when discussing pay per click. Your ads are displayed when users search for terms that are the same or very similar to keywords you have specified in your account. Content network sites are non-search engine web sites devoted to some particular topic.

Web sites join content networks in order to monetize their traffic. Search engines split the revenue that is generated by each click of an ad on a content network site. The amount that can be earned for each click is dependent on how much advertisers have bid for the click. Clicks in more competitive industries will cost much more to the advertiser, so those clicks will be worth much more to the web site hosting the ad. Some internet entrepreneurs have made a lot of money building and promoting sites devoted to certain topics just to drive traffic to it so people will click on their ads.

For instance, let's say there is a hypothetical site called EverythingAboutFishing.com that is a member of Google's content network. Advertisers looking to advertise fishing products could choose to bid for clicks from the site, or choose to pay per thousand impressions (CPM). Either way, Google and the fishing web site will split the revenue generated from ads placed by relevant advertisers.

It has been my experience that ads on content sites generate far fewer clicks and conversions than ads on search engine results pages. This makes sense because no matter how relevant a web site is to the advertiser, viewers of the site will not be nearly as targeted as a search engine results page showing search results related to a specific keyword. Following are some of the main reasons you might want to use a content network rather than or in addition to search results:

1. You are on a tight budget in a competitive industry.

2. One of your goals is branding, or getting your business' name in front of as many people as possible.

3. You are in an industry in which there is not much search activity. For example, if you sell a new type of product that no one is searching for (because they don't know it exists), then content can help you drive traffic and increase awareness.

Beyond the exceptions listed above, you will generally generate much more traffic and get better results advertising on SERPs.

There are usually two ways to get your ads placed on sites in a content network. You can have your ads placed on the sites based on content that triggers your ad. This is the quickest way because you can just include the content network as part of your campaign setup. The other way to have your ads placed on content network sites is to run a site-specific campaign. The difference here is that your ads will only display on the exact web sites that you specify, regardless of the content on any other sites.

Content network ads may work well for your business, or they may not. The only way to know is to give it a try. Go conservative with your bidding at first and carefully monitor your conversions. Calculate your return on ad spend or cost per conversion for both search and content and go with the one that provides the best performance. If you just can't generate enough traffic using search alone, then add content to the mix.

There is a trend in the search engine marketing industry toward account automation achieved via automated bid management tools supplied by the search engines. Yahoo! has some interesting automatic management options that we have found to work fairly well.

The first option is its Tune Up Campaign feature. With this option, Yahoo! will perform an analysis on your account that takes into consideration several factors, such as performance history, your budget, and a chosen metric (either impressions or clicks). You will be presented with a list of suggested changes to your campaign, which you can either accept or deny. To initiate a campaign tune up, click the button on the campaign detail screen labeled "Tune Up Campaign".

Yahoo! also has a campaign optimization feature which automates ongoing bid management. The difference between campaign optimization and campaign tune up is that optimization is an automated ongoing process, whereas a campaign tune up is a one-time event. With optimization, you specify your monthly budget and Yahoo! will modify your campaign based on either a "conversion funnel" or a "business objective".

The conversion funnel option spends your campaign budget based on a set of priorities that you set. These priorities include customers seeing your ad, customers clicking your ad, and conversions. Yahoo! provides a scale that runs from "Not important" to "High". Specifying an importance level for each priority will cause Yahoo! to adjust bids differently.

For example, if your main goal is visibility by displaying your ads to as many people as possible, you would set the "Customer seeing your ad" option to a high priority. If generating conversions at a target cost is your top priority, you would set the campaign conversion priority to high and specify your target conversion cost. You can also set a target return on ad spend as your high priority event.

The business objective optimization option lets you specify the value for a parameter: your target cost per click, cost per conversion, or cost per thousand impressions (CPM). It is very similar to the conversion funnel option but is more straightforward. There is no setting of priorities - just a dollar amount for the most important parameter.

If you have conversion tracking in place and know exactly how much you can afford to pay per conversion, or what you can pay to generate the most total conversions at maximum profitability, then you should use the cost per conversion option. Ultimately, that is the most important parameter - what it costs to get a new customer or qualified prospect.

We have found Yahoo!'s campaign optimization feature to work reasonably well once it has run long enough to make the necessary changes. They are definitely worth a try. However, it would be a serious mistake for you to just set it and forget about it. It may be the case that Yahoo! technically does what you told it to do, but it could end up producing the wrong results. For instance, you might specify a target cost per click, which Yahoo! achieves, but it could shrink your total traffic so much that it becomes pointless. So keep an eye on things to make sure that Yahoo! is making adjustments that are going to help you reach your goals.

Pay-per-click, or PPC advertising with Google Adwords is a hightly effective way of marketing your website, if you know how to use it. Unfortunately, many people simply bid the highest amount they can afford and hope for the best. In order to make Adwords work for you, you need to have a strategy. You also need to do a lot of homework and testing to create a campaign that will bring visitors to your website, and keep them coming back.

The first mistake many people make with Google Adwords is not having a bidding strategy. The highest bid is not necessarily going to be what brings you the most traffic from a PPC advertising campaign. You need to decide if you're willing to accept a lower position on the search page. Remember, not every click is going to result in a sale, so if you're paying too much per click, you're wasting your money.

Another pitfall of bidding high is that competitors may fraudulently repeatedly click your ad in order to drain your advertising budget. A lower cost per click helps to keep this problem under control. A well-crafted ad with a lower position may suit your purposes as well or better than one higher up on the page.

Another reason people fail with PPC is failure to do their homework. You need to do research. Find out what the market is for your product or service. Learn keyword popularity. Track the effectiveness of your ad. If a campaign isn't working, pull it or rework it, perhaps targeting a different audience.

There are a lot of software programs on the market that can help test the effectiveness of a campaign. Buy them and use them. By making sure you have the most effective Google Adwords campaign possible, you greatly increase your chances of success.

People who don't have great success with Google Adwords don't give their prospects value for their time. They simply bring the potential customer to their website's home page and drop them off. Very few people click on an affiliate ad or make a purchase the first time they visit a website. You want to keep visitors coming back to your website. An easy way to do this is to link your PPC ad to a specific page on your website, called a landing page, that is tailored to the specific keywords used in the ad.

Have interesting and informative content on each page of your site. You may offer a free e-book, newsletter, or e-zine related to your particular product or service. You don't want to use PPC advertising to your site only to have it pass through. You want people to stop and stay a while, and then come back and visit again.

Many people have not succeeded using PPC advertising, but many others have. Those who do succeed using programs such as Google Adwords have developed winning strategies for success.

By using the right bidding strategy, researching keywords, and tracking their advertising, they have learned how to bring traffic to their website. By creating content that visitors find interesting and helpful, they keep them coming back. Develop the right marketing strategy, and Google Adwords can help you to succeed with your online business.

When you create a website the first thing that strikes your mind is the usability of the website and the availability of clients to your site. Both these functions can be acquired by a single tool- the search engines. Once a website is ready, the next essential factor which is important in case of every website is the search engine marketing.

SEM is very different from the typical off-line marketing which we have been doing so far. When a website is optimized for the search engines, it automatically becomes available to the targeted clients, there is no need to go about marketing it from customer to customer. Discussed below are few basic search engine marketing tips which will provide a better understanding of the Online marketing process and will also explain how the process is useful to your business.

The most essential factor in search engine marketing are keywords. Marketing in the search engine cannot be accomplished without keywords. Keywords are the largest and the strongest pillar of Internet marketing. Hence once you plan to set up search engine practice for your website, it is important that you do a good research on keywords that best suit your business and then optimize the search engines for those keywords.

There are several search engines that can help you get traffic. It will therefore be wise to submit your websites to the directories of as many of them as possible so that they collectively contribute traffic to their website.

In order to make your website search engine friendly, you will probably have to make a lot of additions and amendments in your site. Link build is one such addition. The greater the number of inbound links to your website, the more popular your website becomes on the web. Hence practices like link popularity and link exchange are also useful in effective search engine marketing practices.

The latest trend in search engine marketing is social media and its various features that make use of content and simple communication to promote a website. Blogs, forums, articles, classified ads, podcasts etc are some of the commonly used features that inversely help in the growth of search engine marketing.

If you had eight hours and $100 per month to spend on the promotion of your web site, what would you do? I answered a question similar to this recently on LinkedIn and thought it was an interesting mental exercise. What would you do? The following is what I would recommend a web site owner do in this situation.

With the eight hours, I would divide that time up as so: five hours on research and writing, one hour article distribution, one hour social bookmarking, and one hour link swapping. This would accomplish two major goals of a search engine optimization campaign: content creation and linking. This assumes that the web site is reasonably optimized to begin with, at least as far as content. If your site has little content to begin with, you need to address that before starting an SEO campaign.

The five hours devoted to research and writing could be used to make blog posts. Those blog posts can then be compiled into articles. Assuming you could do a blog post in a half hour (counting a few minutes for research), then you could do eight blog posts (or about two per week), and then create two to four articles from those blog posts. This would result in the creation of a lot of content on your site (assuming the blog is part of your site, or is your site) and the distribution of a lot of content which would link back to your site.

For the $100, first I would pay for some kind of article distribution service. Probably the best such service I have found is ArticleMarketer. It's not perfect (in fact, there are some things about that I despise), but it does a great job of performing its core function - distributing your articles. It is a pay service, so that fee will have to come out of the $100, but I believe that would still leave at least $75 per month.

With the remainder of the cash, I would purchase a few reasonably high PR links from a link brokerage service. There are a number of such companies, so just search for them and pick one that offers what you are looking for - high quality links from sites relevant to your business. There has been a lot of discussion in the search engine marketing industry about Google's discounting of links, but it has been my experience that Google (and all the major search engines to an extent) still places a lot of stock in the links you have pointing to your web site.

One bonus with purchasing links is that you will receive some traffic from direct click-throughs, well before there is any affect on search engine rankings. In addition, the content distribution part of your strategy (distributing articles) will help with your company's branding. Every time someone reads your article (assuming it is well-researched and well-written), they will see your name or company name and recognize you as an authority in your field.

Like most any strategy involving search engine optimization, this is not a quick path to fame and glory. It takes time, and it takes discipline. You must be systematic. One weakness in this strategy as described above is that you need to be a decent writer. There are article writing services you can take advantage of, but that does not work in the context of our $100 per month budget. If your budget is that thin, you need to either have the capability to write good articles or know someone you can hire for very cheap (perhaps a gifted local high school student?).

Is this strategy easy? Not particularly. Does it work? Absolutely. It is possible to achieve high search engine rankings on your own, on a very small budget, with just a few hours of work. Give it a try!

The Internet appeared as a new technology and soon became the most common method to transmit information. Based on the development of the World Wide Web, enhanced means of communication appeared and the ‘web’ spread even further. Today, we rely on the Internet for a lot of things. But who would have thought that we would use this technology to find stuff?

When we say find, we do not mean about simply using a search engine and waiting for the generated results. With Finders Tellers, you are invited to post your listing and say to others (or better yet describe) the things you are looking for. In due time, you can check the responses posted and see if any of them are useful. They are the tellers and you can become one yourself. Tellers provide all the information you need to know about the product or service in question, including links and additional details for your own benefit.

Using this service will allow you to search for things, ideas, places or services. You can search for news, music or video strips, waiting feedback from other interested users. In fact, the number of categories included increased on a daily basis. They have antiques and collectibles, arts and crafts, plus baby products and beauty. You can enter your request in any of these categories. Books, clothes and food related stuff – all you can search for, waiting for the tellers’ response. If you are interested in garden products, music, photography, pottery, real estate or technology, this is place where you should go and ask for it.

Online, at Finders Tellers, you can see a few examples of other’s people requests and even post a response for them (in case you have useful info). The listings include a photo of the product, with a short description and there is even a potential reward. You can proceed to reading the detailed information. For example, let’s say someone is trying to find a book on the politics of the Middle East. The category is books, non-fiction and history. You will see the name of the user who has posted that request and also his/her status. The detailed description includes questions about where are the best books on this subject to be found. The user also inquires about the existence of book presenting Arabic religious beliefs, asking for a well-put compilation of facts.

For someone interested in finding a specific product, this is the best resource ever. Let’s say you want to find TV converter boxes, after you heard about the possibility of getting them for free. The one thing you have to do is ask and you will soon receive a response from one of the tellers. The category is technology, television and you can always vote if the response was helpful or not. As a response to that question, the user might decide to offer you URL links and also some free advice, like taking the coupons and using them at the local store. As you can see for yourself, this service is useful, highly functional and really popular.

And how about someone posting a request for a wedding dress? That lady might want a unique wedding dress, with specific custom designs. With this particular service, she can ask for what she needs and even offer a reward. Specialized vendors, using the same resource, will promptly answer to her request and provide the future bride with the much desired dress. Thus, users have the great advantage of finding buyers. Is ‘Finding Made Easy’ or what?

As a general conclusion, you have to remember that the Internet presents some of the greatest opportunities for searching. You can always use a search engine but for more specific and positive results, a service like this one is more indicated. The tellers provide helpful responses and you will certainly find what you were looking for. Moreover, vendors have the definite advantage of browsing diverse categories and check out the latest trends. Someone who sells wedding dresses can see current tendencies by browsing that specific category. And plus, it’s a lot of fun!

About the Author:

FindersTellers! Finders Tellers allows users to post listings describing for what they are looking for. Whether you are looking for something specific or vague, post a listing and see if anyone has spotted what you want. If you are a vendor, you can see what people out there are looking for.

What are targeted keywords?

Targeted keywords are those words which will connect to your website through organic
searches. These words are usually discovered with specific Internet tools such as
overture (inventory.overture.com), where you can identify keywords that are related
to your business. For example, if you sell laptops – ‘laptop’ keyword would be expensive
and unaffordable for a small business. However, you could use ‘lightweight laptop’,
‘large screen laptop’, and ‘custom laptop’ from the overture keywords tool.

Not only are these keywords less expensive, but they're actually more effective
because they end up converting your visitors better.

How targeted keywords are used?

Once you have selected your targeted keywords, you apply them into well-written,
quality content articles. The traffic of your website will be boosted in direct
proportion with the popularity of your articles. In order to use this method optimally,
you need to pay close attention to the use of the targeted keywords in your articles.

Here are some pointers:

1.Density - Use the keyword in three to five percent density, i.e. in a text of
500 words, the keyword should be repeated a minimum of 15 times and a maximum of 25 times.
Any more or any less would either be ignored or rejected by the search engines.

2.Placement - The targeted keyword should figure in the title and first paragraph as well
as the last paragraph. A few should be kept in the body – but that is optional.

3.Cohesion – the keywords should be used in such a way that they make perfect sense in
the context of the article. Just peppering the text with the keywords when they do not
make sense would prompt rejection by the search engine.

The answer is probably ‘Yes’. A keyword rich domain does increase your search
engine ranking. Hence, be careful what you call your domain – if it reflects what
you are selling you will gain automatic visibility with the leading search engines.

How this works? Well, when you search with the help of your targeted keywords, the
URL having the same keywords is identified immediately by the search engine and hence
you get a higher ranking than you would have got otherwise. This is also true when
other websites link to your site. Once again, the fact the exact keywords are figuring
in the URL can make a small difference – but a positive one!

Keyword Rich Domain Is Not Enough!

Though this is a great help for new websites, it is not advisable for the already
established dot coms to change the name of their website for a new keywords rich domain.
In fact, keywords rich domain name is only one of the many factors that increase Search
Engine Ranking (SER).

If you already have a nice search engine ranking , that means that you have already
achieved the right balance of promotion and you should not disturb the equation.

The other great methods that can be used for SEO are content writing, blogs, RSS, article
writing, link exchange, etc... You will need to choose and apply these methods to your
website in order to increase your traffic.

These SEO methods along with a relevant keyword rich domain would indeed give you
the desired results.

To Your Success!
