Old MLM Vs. New
Author: Ronda Tuckness
There are many marketers out there who seem to be stuck using the old MLM methods. I suspect that there are two main reasons for it. The first reason may be that they see no reason to try something new when what they have been doing is working. The second reason could be fear. Most people fear change and resist it. They would rather stick with what they know.
However, it is a harsh reality that the old methods gave network marketing a bad rap. These include making a list of all your friends and family, cold calling, approaching strangers in the mall or supermarket
I prefer the new methods which are much less intrusive. Email signatures, web decals on vehicles, forum participation, article marketing, social networking. These new ways of marketing bring people to the marketer, versus the other way around.
What a revelation! When interested prospects come to you inquiring about your business, you have a much greater chance of signing them up. On the other hand, if you have chased and pestered them, they probably just hope that you will go away.
Nobody wants to be sold, and they also do not want to be pressured by some desperate soul to join a business opportunity in which they have no interest. If your upline is training you in the old methods, I suggest that you learn the new ways FAST!
People are (and always have been) repelled by sales people. It is just a fact of life. Most salesmen are thought to be sleazy. This is not necessarily an accurate depiction of everyone in the industry, but it is a common attitude never-the-less.
However, if you use tactics that draw people to you and to your business, you lose that “salesman” image. The low-key tactics of new MLM are much more desirable for both the marketer and the prospect.
An individual who has always wanted a home business, or a stay-at-home mom looking for a way to make money from home, may see your web decal as you drive around town. Or maybe they see your email signature attached to something that a friend sent them.
Either way, they may end up on your personal website because they saw it somewhere and it piqued their interest. As they read the information on your site, they may begin to feel as if they know you because you have provided information about yourself.
A personal website is an important step in the process. It allows you to tell people about yourself and about your journey into the world of home business. If you post personal photos of yourself and your family, pets, etc., it brings your readers into your world. A relationship may begin to develop between you and your prospects.
Keep these things in mind if you are new to MLM. Use the methods that draw people to you, and stay away from those that require you to force information on others.
